On 3 February 2026 Steffi and I headed back to ME. And we had a wonderful surprise from Kevin with us: a digital photo frame connected to our Wi-Fi. Using an app, Kevin can send new photos of our grandson at any time, so we are always up to date. Every new picture was of course a huge joy for Steffi. A brilliant idea, Kevin!

A dream comes true: the Williams Turbojet

We had a plan: we sold our old dinghy to Martin and Conny – because we had bought a Williams Turbojet. It came from Daniel, who lives on Tenerife and used to own the same boat as us, a Privilege. He had since sold the boat but kept the jet tender. Having a Turbojet on board had always been my dream!

So we first sailed from Fuerteventura to Gran Canaria and handed over our dinghy to Martin and Conny. Then we continued to Tenerife, where we stayed over carnival. Daniel was a great help: he brought the Turbojet from his garage to the harbour in his van, and we took it on board.

Heading north: Porto Santo

On 16 February 2026 we set off – heading north to Porto Santo. After such a long time in the Canaries, finally on to new shores!

Steffi looking forward to arriving, just before Porto Santo

After two days and two nights at sea we arrived on Porto Santo – in absolutely dreamlike, perfectly calm weather. We were even able to moor right in the harbour on the pontoon, which according to other sailors is actually rather unusual.

A perfect island – with one catch

But then came the disappointment: the marina had changed owners, and the unbeatably cheap rates for anyone staying longer than a month were gone. The new owner only offered weekly rates – which would have made a longer stay extremely expensive for us.

So we decided to stay a good week to ten days and explore the island at our leisure. Porto Santo is beautiful, the people are very friendly and living there is extremely cheap – actually a perfect island. Only the berth was too expensive for us in the long run. And so we moved on: across to Madeira!
