On the move again – boatyard time in Marina Rubicon

Frisches Antifouling

At last we had the chance to be away for a longer period again! On 16 February 2025 we flew to La Palma – and this time ME was not just going to sit in the harbour.

Farewell to La Palma

After a year and a half we left our home port and first took ME to Las Palmas on Gran Canaria, where we stayed for two or three days.

Boatyard time in Marina Rubicon

From Gran Canaria we continued to Lanzarote and Marina Rubicon to get ME properly back in shape. The list was long: the antifouling needed renewing, one rudder was stiff, and we also had problems with the starboard engine. At first we thought only its heat exchanger was faulty – later it turned out that both heat exchangers had given up. And so we stayed in the Rubicon a little longer than planned.

We had planned two weeks in the boatyard – it turned into four. All in all we were away for six weeks. Steffi had to go back home in between to work.

Good friends on Lanzarote

It never got boring, though: of course we met up with Siggi as always and spent a merry evening together. And Horst and Christine kept picking us up at the Rubicon – we went out to eat several times and saw quite a few things. Even though the reason wasn’t great – so much broken, and everything took so long – it was a really lovely time.

Back to Las Palmas with Horst

When ME was finally back in the water and everything worked, Horst kindly offered to sail the boat back to Las Palmas with me. Thank you, Horst!
