Alone on board – a week on La Palma in January

Die Cascada de Colores – der bunte Wasserfall

After we returned to Germany, ME lay all alone in the marina of Santa Cruz de La Palma for a few months. For time and work reasons we couldn’t come any sooner – we had a few things to sort out in our company and needed to set a new course.

On 2 January 2024 the time had finally come: I flew to La Palma on my own for a week – my first holiday on board without Steffi.

Festive Santa Cruz and a colourful parade

It was a wonderful time. Santa Cruz was still beautifully decorated for Christmas – lights everywhere, even a huge Christmas tree made of fairy lights.

On 5 January a big parade made its way through the town – with characters from Marvel, Disney, Super Mario and all sorts of things. At the end came the Three Kings on their float.

Concrete instead of lazing around

That week Ralf and Karin were re-concreting their terrace. Since I wanted to get a bit of exercise anyway, I offered to help. Over two days we concreted the entire terrace – everything mixed by hand, and we first had to fetch the materials from the quarry. It was really cool and great fun. As a reward there was a fantastic breakfast and, of course, a wonderful dinner.

Hiking to the Cascada de Colores

Otherwise I mainly used the week to relax and went hiking a lot – among other places to the Cascada de Colores, the “colourful waterfall” in the Caldera de Taburiente. The minerals in the water stain the rocks bright yellow, orange and green – an incredible sight.
