Two weeks without a car – and the Cofete hike at last

Blick Richtung Süden, ungefähr nach Morro Jable

On 9 August 2026 we were off again: Steffi and I flew back to Fuerteventura – this time without a rental car. Hermann picked us up at the airport, and later we collected Sylvie too.

Two weeks without a car

For two weeks we got around without a car of our own: either we borrowed Martin’s car, or we drove around with Hermann and Sylvie. They showed us so many corners of the island we didn’t know yet – even though we’ve been here quite a while now. A great time, and once again we had loads of fun.

And in case you’re wondering about the mouse running around on the pontoon: that’s Hermann – in costume! He’s always up for some nonsense.

The mouse on the pontoon? That’s Hermann!

The hike to Cofete – this time with three of us

As announced: I hadn’t forgotten that Martin and Hermann wanted to hike to Cofete with me. On 12 August we met at half past eight in the morning – and the hike was perfect! They really enjoyed it. Steffi picked us up on the other side in Cofete, and then it was back to the boat.

A small mishap right at the start: Hermann’s hiking boots clearly hadn’t been used for quite a while – the soles simply came off! He had to go and fetch other shoes before we could really get going.

We also did plenty more – among other things we visited Betancuria, the historic mountain town in the island’s interior, and had an excellent meal there. Plus some great viewpoints.

Fondue in summer

And then Hermann and Sylvie invited us over for fondue. Not exactly a summer dish – but it was superb! We sat together cosily with the finest meat and the finest sauces, everything top quality. Thanks again to Hermann and Sylvie – for the wonderful evening and for driving us around so much and looking after us so kindly!

We also had a barbecue with Martin and Annika on a secluded beach – that was simply perfect too. All in all: fantastic people here!

No casting off this time

We didn’t go out sailing this time, though. Just as we were about to cast off, the diesel pump on one of the engines broke. We do have two engines – but we don’t go out with one of them faulty. So we arranged for the repair to be done while we were away. A quick update: the engine is running again! Thank you, Martin and Hermann, for taking care of everything when we’re not there.

And yes – we’ll be back! On 9 October the next men’s trip is on the cards …
